Healthy Living skills

Healthy eating is an essential and fundamental issue for healthy development, which is fully promoted and supported as an essential aspect of the independent living skills provided.  Alongside the healthy balanced diet provided (see below) students will be guided to create a range of meals consisting of a weekly plan.  This is to ensure that they are equiped in the future to not only cater to their own dietary needs but also manage the tools, appliances and safety requirements within the kitchen environment.

House keeping

Following on from the tasks of healthy eating, students will be taking ownership and responsibility for the things that you have utilised.  This will be useful and essential elements when it comes to washing-up following the creation of the lovely meals.

Alongside these skills students are also supported to utilise the full range of their abilities by accessing and being supported to operate the washing machine and understanding its varying functions.  The Grenadian climate will allow for them to hang out their clean clothes outside in the warm breeze.  Finally accessing the iron and being taught some tricks of the trade if required.

There is anticipation that students residing at Camp Grenada Construction, as part of their independent living skills maintain their rooms to a good standard by making their beds on a daily basis.  All rooms have laundry baskets and small bins, brooms, dustpans and vacuums can be found in the storage area if required.

Horticulture

Within the context of independent living it is recognised that students will require learning support and guidance with their educational progression.  This could be in the area of reading, writing, maths or other aspects of the curriculum that may be hindering their growth or development.
Camp Grenada Construction has ownership of land, on which crops are harvested throughout the year. It is planned that as an activity all participants will have the opportunity to plant seeds for the future. The crops produced will continue to be donated to the local orphanage and school which are located in the Parish where Camp Grenada Construction is located.

“Grenadians are well known for planting short crop, which is planting something today that can be eaten in the space of three weeks due to the richness of the soil".
Camp Grenada Construction is able to create an
individual supportive plan that meets the needs of the students.

Supportive Learning

Within the context of independent living it is recognised that students will require learning support and guidance with their educational progression.  This could be in the area of reading, writing, maths or other aspects of the curriculum that may be hindering their growth or development.
In some cases it may be that there is the need for more directional support in terms of future development.  Whether that is in terms of progressing in education, creating a curriculum vitae, applying for a job, or preparing for an interview.
Camp Grenada Construction is able to create an
individual supportive plan that meets the needs of the students.
